"I was handed a Co-op Program booklet by my school careers advisor in 2003 and instantly took a shining to the idea of not only being paid to go to uni but getting practical experience throughout my degree as well. At the time I was open to almost all possibilities of further study, but in the end I decided studying engineering, particularly materials engineering through the Co-op Program was most appealing to me.

I saw the Co-op Program as a way of giving myself a better sense of direction, in that I would be studying and working in the industry as I progressed through my degree. This is exactly what I got out of the program, and more. I gained an insight into what roles and jobs were available to me when I completed my degree, I learnt where my real interests lay, I built on my strengths and improved on my weaknesses, and I gained priceless practical experience in four, very different working environments.

I now work as a graduate materials engineer at Shinagawa Refractories Australasia, the largest Refractory company in Australasia."
