In April 2017 a team of 12 UNSW Sydney students, had the opportunity to attend the National Model United Nations conference in New York, getting involved in more than 6 committees to address global issues and gain a better understanding of the inner workings of the UN. Suriya Shanmuga, a 3rd Year Chemical Engineering Co-op Scholar, was one of the participants and had the opportunity to hone her skills in diplomacy, negotiation and critical thinking within the Committee of Commission of Status of Women.

Suriya shared her thoughts on her incredible experience with us, saying "Participating in the NMUN as a diplomat of Switzerland gave me the chance to understand the issues women face internationally, and discuss potential solutions for the better well-being of the global community."
