Why do you sponsor the Co-op Program?
The UNSW Co-op Program is a great talent incubator for the firm in Australia. As a team, we benefit from access to the high calibre of the scholars during their time with us, and we have employed many of these in graduate positions.
Please describe a highlight working with a UNSW Co-op scholar?
A key highlight of working with Co-op scholars is their enthusiasm and desire to learn. This positive attitude is infectious and lifts the team. We always feel a great deal of satisfaction in watching how far the scholars progress over their 6 months with us.
In your opinion, what advantage does the UNSW Co-op Program offer its scholars in their career development?
While the technical 'on the job' training is important, the biggest advantage the scholars gain is the window into a number of corporate cultures and working practices. This arms the scholars with a clear view of what type of firm suits them best and what they can expect in the workplace. The practical experience is also a fantastic differentiator for them when they are seeking employment.
What advice would you give to high school students considering the Co-op Program and a career in the field you work in?
Accounting is a great foundation for a corporate career because numbers drive so many commercial decisions.
